Flicker Free LED Drivers – The MEAN WELL XLN & XLC LED Drivers

Flicker Free LED Driver

Flicker-free lighting is integral for human environments that are illuminated by artificial lighting. Poor lighting conditions with light flickering can detriment human health, impacting quality of life, and cause a cascading flow of health impacts such as eye strain, headaches, and all-around discomfort.

Environments such as hospitals, hotels, offices, malls and residential locations often use flicker-free LED Drivers to improve quality of life and prevent unnecessary health issues and discomforts.

To ensure a high standard of lighting within these environments, MEAN WELL's XLN and XLC LED Drivers are designed to provide consistent, high-quality, flicker-free lighting.

The MEAN WELL XLN & XLC feature 25W, 40W & 60W powered options, with voltage ranges from 12, 24 and 48v outputs. Constant Current versions are available with the H type, offering users a wide range of adjustable currents.

Constant Current models within the XLN and XLC series can adjust their power output via the MEAN WELL mobile app and NFC integration, however, the XLC constant current models also feature dipswitches on the LED Driver.

The XLC series offers users terminal output options, whereas the XLN series offers IP67 cable output options, making the XLC series also suitable for outdoor lighting applications.

XLN & XLC offer users non-dimming and dimmable options, with 1-10V dimming and DA2 protocol. The constant voltage models are offered only as non-dimmable at this time.

The MEAN WELL XLN and XLC series are designed for flicker-free applications with PSTlm ratings <1 and SVM ratings of <0.4, making both LED drivers ideal for hospital, office, hotels and residential environments.

How to Measure Flicker in Lighting?

The International Commission on Illumination, also known as the CIE, created measurements, PSTMlm and SVM, to help guide buyers' understanding of what rating of LED driver can be used for different applications.

PstLM measures the visibility of flicker that can cause discomfort to static observers in a static environment. In contrast, SVM measures the visibility of stroboscopic effects, which are changes in motion caused by flicker.
