PMBus Power Supplies
In many automated processes, it is necessary to vary the output of a power supply. MEAN WELL provides a solution by offering several power supplies that can be remotely controlled from a PLC or other controller through the application of an external voltage.
The MEAN WELL NCP-3200 series of combined power supply / battery charger feature PMBus support, allowing them to be integrated into a higher-level control system.
These power supplies are rack mountable and offer several advantages, including a current sharing function, which allows up to 40 units to be connected in parallel.
By connecting multiple units in parallel, the current sharing function allows for a higher power output. Up to 10 racks (each housing 4 NCP-3200 power supplies) can be connected in parallel, delivering a maximum system power output of 128,000 Watts.
One of the most useful features of these power supplies is the ability to adjust the output voltage or current by applying an external voltage. Voltage can be adjusted within a range of 50% to 125% of the nominal output, while current can be adjusted within a range of 20% to 100%.
PMBus support increases compatibility with higher-level control systems. This allows for the variation of power supply output parameters throughout any process. In addition, TTL alarm signals indicate the status of the DC output and flag if the temperature of the unit exceeds 60°C, making these power supplies well-suited for system-critical applications.
NCP-3200 power supplies are available with either a 24V or 48V DC output, delivering a high efficiency rating of up to 94.5%. They also have a remarkably high-power density, taking up only minimal real estate.
The battery charger has embedded 2-stage and 3-stage charging cycles, making it compatible with most battery types.
